a misconception about az is that it is all desert! a very wrong thought!

The term desert is detrmined by precipitation, not necesarrily temperature.

If that's the case, we had the Great Alabama Desert back in ' 95.

If that's the case, we had the Great Alabama Desert back in ' 95.

About 15 years ago there was consideration being given to change portions of the mojave desert to whatever the classification is just a little wetter. We had gone through about 10 years of excessive rainfall. Then just like magic, it stopped and turned dryer then normal.

Breeds that are not black will be better suited for Arizona. Those old black hides soak up too much heat.

Crossbred is best.

Brangus is a crossbred.

Brangus is an American breed. See the attached site.

I know as well as you do what a brangus is. You can call it an american breed, which it is in name, but it is a cross between Angus and Brahman. 5/8 Angus and 3/8 Brahman which makes it a crossbred.

My point is that Brangus "crossbreed" is a Registered Breed of cattle today, since 1949. One doesn't refer to a Reg. Breed as "crossbreed". More Brangus are bred from Brangus to Brangus breeding than any other way.

We usually referred to a first cross as a 'Hybrid', and hybrid cattle bred inter se and developed into a breed through selection, are 'Composite' breeds. There are probably regional terms that differ, but the two are distinctly different types of cattle, and this needs to be noted in any breeding programme
when breeding for a planned result, a composite will give as predictable result as any breed, a hybrid may be less predictable.
