I noticed in the stockyard market reports that sometimes they list prices for exotics which are lower. What breeds are exotics?

I thought exotics were non-British Bos Tarus cattle.
that's a better definition, but it's another kind of regional thing, I've heard it used for continentalX brahman cattle.

your "continental" breeds are exotics. Charolais, Simmental, Limousin are probably the most common examples. anything with half continental breeding would probably pass in the stockyard report as exotic...

Not to be too contrary (as usual) but 20 years ago the non-british cattle were considered exotics. Now it would more then likely refer to none traditional breeds, i.e. longhorns, gallaway, etc., or those outside of the mainstream of beef production.
Just a thought.

I guess when I think of it I use showing cattle as the example. YOu have British, American, American Breed X and Exotics or AOB, all other breeds. That is if the show doesn't break them by specific breeds.
