What’s this object

Anybody know what this is? It's something from an older gentleman's belongings who recently passed away. He was always getting things at sales and didn't know what half of it was.

Used to see a lot of cotton scales around at local farm auctions , not many anymore . Now that I want a set.

Guessing around 10 pounds.

Weigh it and if it weighs 8 lbs then its probably a counterweight for a cotton/grain/tobacco scale. They are called pea weights and normally are 4 or 8 lbs depending on what you are weighing.
