Wet spots in fields?

Been a wet year here and seems like some areas really stay wet longer than normal. Would compaction be causing this? Always wondered if you ran a subsoiler thru these areas if it would help them drain better. Would a subsoiler tear up sod too bad?

Almost too much to answer with.

Land is tiled or not?

Land is clay or not?

Land is low lying or not?

The possibilities are endless.

Tearing up the ground will not likely help the drainage unless you are on hard pan.

You have wet ground then you need to be happy - many are crying for rain.

Might be real different next year.

Tell us more - but I never recommend ripping ground - it does not really make drainage improvements

sub soilers work real good if you have some place you can drain to or you have hard pan that just needs busted up. been watching for one at sales around, but havn't seen any. old man had one & it worked swell, but that was in pa.

Could it be springs pushing water up because of the extra water infiltrating? Many years ago we had this type of problem back when we got more rainfall. Had many spots pop up out of nowhere. Problem was the water brought salts to the surface as well and made these areas very saline. Over the years the water levels dropped and eventually we farmed the ground just as if nothing had ever happened.

Land is tiled or not? Not

Land is clay or not? Not much clay but some areas are.

Land is low lying or not? A lot of it is low lying but some of it is hill ground.

The possibilities are endless.

Tearing up the ground will not likely help the drainage unless you are on hard pan.

You have wet ground then you need to be happy - many are crying for rain. Maybe the last 2 years of droughts made me forgt about these wet areas being there, but they some worse in some of the higher ground and not as bad in some of the low spots. Made some tracks on top of a hill yesterday mowing while not making some on the low ground.

Might be real different next year.
