All Ya'll act like ya be suprised or somethin. Hollywood is Hollywood, nothin else. They ain't real cowboys, they aint real cops. They aint real nothin but actors, actresses and writers. All they be lookin for is the $$$$$$$$$$.A writer may write a movie ya really like but if ya was ta meet that writer ya would probably discover ya couldn't stand ta be in the same state with em.

Beefy don;t read this!

Since brokebutt mountain won a bunch of awards from the mainstream industry, how long will it be before porn is considered good healthy family fare? Debbie does dallas and deep throat may become family movie classics

Where are you finding all these other emoticon's? I particularly like the one of the little smilely face eating popcorn? Comes in handy for a lot of threads on here! ;-)

The conventional wisdom within the media "elite" is that there are only two markets - one in New York, and another in California. They view the rest of us as a nuisance that separates these two Shangri-Las. So when they make a movie like "Brokeback Mountain", which gains all these awards and is proclaimed as being so great before it is even released , it becomes a case of the emperor has no clothes. In other words, if those judges of "all that is great" in Hollywood and Soho say it is great, then it has to be, and if I don't agree, then I must just not be smart enough to understand it. There are plenty of examples of this. Anyone remember "American Beauty?"

But at the end of the day the almighty dollar is what rules. Regardless of all the accolades it might earn, movie producers want movies that make money. So even though NY and LA look upon us with disdain, they need our money. Unfortunately, they'll be plenty within middle-America that will also go support this assault on traditional America. Why? Because Oprah says it's great!

Saw a show onTV the other night called Nip/Tuck. Maybe I have the wrong perspective, but I was speechless at some of the scenes and dialogue. I am not that easily shocked, heck, I liked the beer joint. But this TV show was way too far out, or over the top, or however it is said today.

I understand what you are saying but its just disapointing to think their is someone out there that knows how to write a western, sorta like if george strait teamed up with elton john for a duo type feeling

I've gotta say my all time favorite western movie is John Wayne's The Cowboys.

Don't watch too many movies and certainly won't ever watch one more than once with the exception of The Cowboys. I never tire of seeing it.

As for brokeback mountain, if mainstream USA doesn't go see it, then maybe hollywood will get the message. Surely the majority of people aren't interested in that kind of trash!

Yeah, Don't you like it when Longhair (Bruce Dern) is lying there with his horse on top of him. He's tangled up in the saddle with a broke leg and one of the boys shoots his pistol to spook the horse. Off it goes at full gallop with Bruce Dern screaming in agony! I love it when the bad guy gets his just desserts!

For writing books, I dont think anyone ever came close to Louis L'Amour. Lots of good western movies, but most of them old with the old stars-----John Wayne, Jimmy Stewart, Charles Bronson, and way too many to name them all. Hard to beat "The Man Who Shot Liberty Valence" and of course "The Magnificent Seven"
