With the animal standing squarely on all four legs, measure around the heart girth, just behind the front legs. The accuracy part is tougher to quantify. There are tapes for dairy and tapes for beef. The beef tapes are usually devided by body condition and gender. I have found for us, if we place the body condition one level higher then we think the animal is that the tapes are usually within a couple of pounds.
