Weed eating find

There is 3 assorted pickups here. Every one has a shovel that lives in the bed. There is also a shovel that leans against the fence by the sidewalk gate. But it is now May 21 and I haven't seen a single one yet this year. Hopefully the fire killed them all last summer.

I normally have a shovel in the back of my truck but I look like Fred Samford's junkyard in the back of my truck. All I could find was that 2x2 !

One time I had been up in the hills cutting corral poles. There was a big rattler in the road by my driveway. I hopped out to grab my shovel. But the poles had shifted and had the shovel pinned down. All I could come up with was a short handled ax. The snake was probably twice as long as that ax handle........ he got away.

That's why I grabbed the 2x2 ; it was plenty long enough. I didn't cut his head off but i bruised it good enough. 🤠 I did come across my sling blade but it has a short handle .

Dad once killed one with the tire lug wrench that was in the trunk of the car. I don't remember how long the snake was, I as just a kid then. It took several tosses. I do remember at one point dad couldn't pick up the wrench.

I killed one with a 9 iron. Couldn't get a real golf shot without being in range of the snake so used it like a hoe. Took a lot of chops to finally hit it right. Wife was laughing pretty hard at me because I did look stupid, but I finally got it.

Why is it that Copperheads always seem to travel in pairs?
We had a Siamese cat that adopted us at our first place in Arkansas, and she'd go for walks with us when we picked wild strawberries along the county road. That cat was always between us and any snake we saw. We learned to watch her so we'd see the snakes. And there was always two if they were Copperheads.

I've never seen them in pairs around here. But that doesn't mean they don't. They're usually around the watershed but we did get a surprise with this one in the garage.
