Weaning Replacement Heifers

Is six months too early to wean heifers that you plan to retain as replacement heifers? What I am wondering is whether you should leave her on the cow a little longer to get better development.

6 months is fine

Nothing wrong with weaning them at 6 months, but just keep in mind the extra feed cost too. Soon as you pen em up, the cost sets in. I usually try to leave mine on their mommas at least til their 7 months old, then pull em off.

Definatly not too early, but earlier than I do.

I usually leave them on the cow till spring. They have to winter on cow hay and a little milk. I just bought a used creep gate for $40 so I may get fancy this year. :cowboy:

We weine around at 6/7 months dont see much more cost than when there older as soon as we get them bunk broke there turned out and only get alittle grain to keep them easy to handle
