weaning calves in pasture next to mothers

unless I'm missing something, with a 9 month gestation period you could breed them at 14-15 months and keep your calving at the same time that the heifers were born. 12 months seems a bit early and would be moving your calving up maybe 3 months. It looks like April 1 calving would be ideal for me so the bull goes in about July 1 when they are 15 months old. If I miss that then everything gets backed up so don't they have to be bred at 14-15 months old or lose a year to 26-27 months or move/messup the calving period?
 
I think hieffers calve earlier than the schedule says, about a week to ten days.
