While my son was busy with his buck yesterday I was hauling calves home for B. Started around 9:30 and hauled the last load at 4:00. I made 6 trips. I added it up and there was a total of 23 trailer loads hauled. Probably an average of 20 calves or more per load. As we delivered them to the corral B and a hired man were vaccinating them. At 6:00 the wife and i were headed to town for a Bible study. Drove by the corral and they were still working at the chute. I stopped by there this morning. It was a bit loud there.
The day before there was 7 cowboys horse back moving cattle out of the hills close to the trap. At daylight on Wednesday 4 guys horse back and 3 on quads pushed them into the trap. I forgot to take my camera. 500 or so pairs in the trap is a impressive sight. I am sure there were ones that got missed. B describes it as a thinning not a clear cut. Others who went to the river to get out of the black are still wandering down here nearly everyday. I had 6 pairs show up here this morning.

I took a pick a few years back when helping the neighbour wean. I think we sorted 8 or 9 hundred a day for a few days. Anyway, this pic (wish it was a pano because it didn't get them all) is what a good sized bunch of cows look like that are all focused one where they last saw their calves

Wow. Alota hamburger on the hoof there 🐂🤠🐂

One thing I noticed was the cows were off some. Long hot dry summer seemed to have had an effect. The deer my son shot wasn't packing a lot of fat for this time of year. I said something about this to B's hired man. He said he didn't really notice it in the cows but that the calves looked to be in good shape but looked to be lighter this year. And he said the 3 year olds which came off a different place last week looked real tough.
