Been thinking about planting a couple of acres of melons this year (next couple of days) for a cash crop.

What varieties are best for commercial production?

Short list:

Charleston Greys
Jubilee II
Sugar Baby's (for small icebox size melons)

Another question. Can I spray the Treflan and plant behind it if I incorporate the soil? Or do I need to wait until after they come up and cover the small plants to avoid them?

I have no "Hooded" sprayer.

You can use Treflan preplant and incorporate. Dual also works.
An open-pollinated variety Crimson Sweet and its related varieties are really good for commercial productionl. The seed doesn't cost a fortune and they grow and taste really good.
I like Sugar Baby too. Some people don't want such a big melon and CS's can get 20-40 pounds.
