The water pump on my 6610 ford has started leaking and Iam pretty sure the thermostat is bad because the tractor is over heating and the top radiator hose is not hot. So should I rebuild the water pump or just buy a new one ?

Do you have a press or access to one to press the fittings inside the pump? If not buy one, if you do, go ahead and rebuild if you can find a kit cheap enough compared to replacing.

If it was me it would get a new pump and thermostat. Also might be a good time to replace the hoses and antifreeze. Those are good tractors that are a lot better that the new Tier 4, so I would put it in good shape.

This is the ticket, put a new fan belt on it also.

I thought about new but wondered if the aftermarket parts would be any good.
Look into a rebuilt from a reputable parts place. They'll stand behind it if there is a problem unlike ebay/craigslist, etc

new hoses clamps pump flush radiator and new thermostat whenever I fool with something I just go ahead and change all the crap so I don't have to go back and do it again for a while

Ya that's the the I don't know of one. All the local places around here just sell aftermarket parts

I'd just go with new, I've had alright success aftermarket. I've done kits too, and some of those water pumps just don't want to come apart nicely.. ended up with a broken impeller so i needed a new water pump anyhow.

We put on a new pump a few years back we accidentally put on wrong year pump did not find out putting fan on so just bought fan to match the pump every thing work out fine

And when you flush the inside of the radiator give the outside a good clean also. The efficiency of tractor radiators is often affected by the crap clogging up the cooling fins. I'd go with replacement pump it can be tricky getting everything pressed onto the shaft in the correct position to give the correct clearances.

How does the fan come off the water pump. It screws on the shaft but not sure how to keep the pump from turning to screw the fan off
