Best be watching where you put your foot down. I ran up on two snakes in less than an hour this week but thankfully none were as large as this one killed this week.

Cottonmouth?

Yes.

That pic real? That guy must be strong. Lot of leverage that far out.

I believe so. My daughter's friend's father is a state trooper and the warden sent him the picture. It was said to have been killed on September 13th in Lowndes county but that's about all I know.

It's a big snake, but I think the angle makes it look way bigger. I wouldn't hold it any closer to me if I was him, but holding it sure changes the comparison to background.

Along the lines of snakes, what does everyone do that hunts in rattler country? Are those snake boots or chaps effective? They say stuff like, up to 19 inches. What about the important stuff 20 inches and higher?

I'm trying to get cajones big enough to do some bird hunting in heavy snake country, but I'm not sure I can get myself psyched up enough for it. Do they make a suite of 1/4 inch steel?

If you can't tell, I HATE snakes. Especially rattlesnakes, I've only had a couple run ins with them and I came up with a torn up knee trying to keep from stepping on one.

I love bird hunting, and this is prime bird country I'm talking about so I'm torn about it all. Figured you snake specialists that deal with them all the time would know some good options.

I am not in rattler country and I use snake proof chaps and boots together when walking through brush there is alot of cottonmouths and copperheads here. I have the plastic sheaths in my truck all the time and use the boots and chaps when I know im gonna be in brush for a while. The plastic sheaths are quick and easy incase i have a unexpected trip to take in the woods or at night.

That has to be world record for a cotton mouth. That's unreal and I have seen some really big ones.
08 was one of the sevarel years bull shoals has been flooded 40+ feet, me and dad were in the boat fishing over what was beaver creek park, we whent by a tree and a cotton mouth that was over 6 foot came out, he swam around for a while then when up by the bank and started chasing some kids dog that had been down in the water barking at the snake. By far the biggest one I have seen.

It's an old fishing guide trick Jed. The farther you hold em out front the bigger they look.

I don't hit the woods without a pair of snake chaps. To cheap not to.

I wouldn't be afraid to part with a little money, my question is- what kind of success do they have at preventing a bite? I'm looking for something in the 110% range.

And do they come with epinephrine to start my heart back up after one has attempted to bite me?
