Vaccination (2nd booster shots) went well with my bull except for the Pasturella pneumonia shot. Tried 3 times to get the 2 ml dose in the nostril and fail 3 times. What I had left was just enough to do the last 3 cows. He got his Cattlemaster Gold and Covexin 8 shots, so I just discharged him thru the side gate. Hopefully he will be ok with out it. Every time I tried to put the dose in , he would jerk his head. I may have gotten a little in but not much. With a lined chute he still climbed to the top of chute but couldn't stay there. He got the two shots though but not the nasal dose of Just Once Pm in.

He'll probably be just fine. But in the future, it's easy to halter them while they're in the chute for intra-nasal, inserting magnets, ear tags, etc. And some head gates already have chains to use as a makeshift halter.
You just gave me a thought. Would a small link chain (1/4") looped around the nose pulled toward the back and it anchored on one end and hooked on the other when you loop it over nose?

I don't like working with a chain with the cattle. YOU can end up getting hurt. I use a rope. Tie it high on one side, loop under his neck and have a place to quick loop on the other side. But, if they are as rowdy as he sounds, I would also use a halter like TC and tie it off tight to the side.
A rope does sound better.:. I don't know why he is like he is. When loose in pasture the is gentle as a lamb, meaning he is nor destructive at all. You can't just walk up to him and touch him but he will let you get to four to five feet then he walks off slowly. When working on the coral he will come watch you work. He just doesn't like confinement. But then who does. Just have to respect him and know not to be caught in a tight place with him and don't rush him.

You need a better chute system the majority of train wrecks happen working cattle.
One of the worse train wrecks I ever had was one flipping over on its back in the chute.
Wasn't pretty. I fixed that.

This is the one i normally use. It was less than $300 and developed locally. The man that invented it sold out the idea and it went to $795. It is rechargeable and rated to do 60 animals i think.Screenshot_20241211_090038_Chrome.jpg

@Tomcolvin , if you have a vet you work with a lot, see if he will give you a dose of Dormosedan to give him IM before hand. Or, it might be called Detomidine for cattle. Tell the vet what you want to do. You don't want to knock him out or put him down, just enough to take the edge off of him.

do you put a magnet in all of them?
Not the calves I sell, but every bull, cow and retained/replacement heifer either gets or already has a magnet. It's my best defense against hardware and relatively inexpensive.

This is a pic of a magnet postmortem (not my cow)
