USDA allows Red Angus in the CAB program

Help Support CattleToday:

I believe proper finishing of a beef has more to do with a good eating experience than breed, marbling etc. if an animal is finished good then it's likely going to be good regardless of breed.
We've fed out Angus and Hereford and crosses of the two.
The worst experience was with a Hereford cross heifer that wouldn't claim her calf. The processor was going to shut down for a while and we only had around 30 days to feed her, I prefer at least 90.
Meat had good flavor but was on the tough side.
The other animals that we have processed were younger 13-18 month old steers or bulls, all very comparable and very good. No discernible difference between the Angus or Herefords both were great eating.

I don't know how much benifit there will be for the Red Angus people. They have done a much better job of breeding for carcass quality than the other breeds. That is probably the reason they selling at the top of the market here. If a higher percentage your calves end up finishing at prime or high choice than other breeds they will bring more money. Especially if they do that with better yield grades.
