We are going to try our hand at meat goat showing. Any good forums in the US for a greenhorn to learn something?

Boer goats are like "the thing" up here lately, not sure why but all of a sudden everyone has them and some people are making big bucks on them. My sister had one and I helped her show a couple of times. It is similar to showing dairy goats if you have ever done that. I am not sure about forums but here is a pdf i found on google, its targeted towards 4-Hers: http://livestock.colostate.edu/youth/do ... Manual.pdf. Check with your extension office and see if they have any info and go to any shows in your area and hook up with another exhibitor that you can tag along with-the best way to learn is to watch it happen and do it. good luck.

Showing meat goats is nothing like showing dairy goats. Look for sanctioned shows in your area. Two largest organizations are the IBGA, http://www.intlboergoat.org/, and the ABGA, http://www.abga.org/. We got started several years ago with a catch-a-goat project through 4H. If that's available, it's a good way to start. Just like cattle, go to shows, talk to breeders in your area. Huge demand for meat goats in the US. Easy to raise, easy to AI, easy for young kids to handle/raise/show.

Thanks for the info. Our county just started a goat show and so there aren't a lot of ppl showing yet. I thought it would be fun. We have a pygmy goat as a pet already (I realize that is apples and oranges).
