Upgrade time. Red baldies!

Help Support CattleToday:

I like them, especially if bred to a black bull. They could make you some money at this point in the cattle cycle.
They will be with my angus bull!
I was gonna hold him off til December but decided to go ahead and leave him with em.

Got a nice 5yr old black pair today with a black heifer calf to match the other calves too. And a 6x6 super nice black cow. Herd sell-off from a wonderful local man who passed away. I'm gonna miss the old guy.
He had a love for shorthorn cows as well as some Maine-angus influenced cows. Always topped the market with his calves.
I wanted the red shorthorn, but my buddy got her. Shes a 5x6 as well.

Good looking mommas!
If you want their babies to have a little ear I'd maybe lean towards a Brangus. They should have some nice baldie babies.
Yep. I agree! @MurraysMutts , you need a good registered Brangus bull. I will trade you one with Salacoa Valley bloodlines, for Bessie!! :)

A little too fat for my taste but that just means they're pretty. I'd want them to lose some weight before calving and then be gaining before breeding season.
These gals ain't bred!! They are raising calves. They should breed right up huh?

As an aside. Can u believe this????
These cows don't know me from Adam!
The KIND!

Okay... so a devil's advocate just bit me in the ear. If they ain't bred then have they been culled because they didn't breed?
They sold some younger short breds as well. If I understood correctly, they were clearing out a pasture and had no place to go with them. I bid on the short breds as well. I should've bought em too!!

Great dispositions... and they are in good flesh and should breed right back since they are not in a "stress condition".... I don't like them too fat, but I sure like more body condition than less when they have calves on them like that. Positive energy balance so they ought to catch...
And some just are good at maintaining their weight... easy keepers.... the best kind.
Look at @Jeanne - Simme Valley 's cows, and @TCRanch 's cows... some might say too fat but they seem to do a bang up job breeding and maintaining and raising some outstanding calves....
Too bad you didn't get the rest...

Please check out the exciting news and vote! It'll be fun!

Don't "body shame" my cows!!!
LOL - actually, I may have some showing some fat, but mostly they are BCS of 5.5 - 6.5. What you see is a lot of meat. That's what I breed for. Easy keeping cows on grass and hay. When you take those genetics and actually want to feed a steer out, they sure do grow well on whole shell corn balanced with some protein.

Do you always look for a negative? You remind me of my ex-husband... half empty instead of half full, partial sun means it might rain... UGH. Besides, murray said they had calves on them....

I meant it more as a compliment...... LOL.... Easy keepers on grass/pasture/hay... LOTS OF MEAT... YES!!!!!!!

I see it as being realistic... If the cows have big calves on them and they aren't carrying a calf then it's something to consider.

But better we don't get married if you are reminded of an ex.

I've been happily married for 47+ years and we get along pretty good. But I will admit that my wife tends to look for the bright spots and I tend to look for the things to avoid.
