unusual looking rear of calving mother

Our first cow is finally calving. She has had calves before but this is out first time with her.
She has been trying to push out something that looks like a hunk of raw meat. What is this and what do we do????

i would recommend you get someone with more expericence look at her pronto.. she could be on the verge of prolapsing..

Sounds to me like a prolapse in progress. Call the vet.

it is a prolapse, i just went through the same thing a week ago sunday. the vet said if she stands and it goes back in it will be o.k., mine hung out and wouldn't go back until i loaded her to go to the vet. he stitched it up and said she should calve alright. mine was 3 weeks from calving. this will be her last calf for me. call the vet and get his input
