I have an cow that has a dislocated hip. She also has an infected foot. We have had her on antibiotics and banamine, but nothing has helped. I think we will have to put her down. I was reading the literature that came with this antibiotic and it says for horses, and not to use on horses that are used for meat. How long would it take to get this out of her system or does it go out of the cow's system? Thanks!!

Uniprim Powder (sulfadizine/trimethporium) is indicated in horses where potent systemic antibacterial action against sensitive organisms is required. Intracell, composed of maltodextrin and ascorbic acid, is a non-toxic hydrophilic dressing that acts like a natural bandage over both acute and chronic wounds. Combined, these products make a formidable bacteria fighting tool.

They wont even sell it to you with intentions to use in Bovine species.

My vet sold it to me to give to this cow.He told me to put it in her feed.

Peanut ~ I looked several places and all I could find on each site was:
The drug is labeled: "Not for use in horses intended for food."
It gave withdrawl time for chickens and pigs, but did not mention cattle.
I wouldn't eat her given the information I found. Your vet should not have sold it to you given the circumstances.

Sorry to hear she didn;t recover.
