You just have to relax and understand that their way is the only way and everything else is wrong. Maybe you need to take time and pm them and ask what they would like you to type cause you surely don't want to upset them and get their panties in a wad cause they will start name calling. You also just have to remember who you are talking to. Afterall, in their world they are the largest rancher east of the Atlantic ocean and you just live in bizzarrioland.

Sounds like it's the regulars who get their panties in a bunch. Just because a "newbie" asks a question does not mean they need to be talked down to like they are stupid. I am looking for YOUR experience because this is MY first experience with a calf. I work for small animal and equine vets, we do very few other large animals. As I stated in my thread I appreciate everyones advice and experience. I do not think it is fair of you to bash on me, I am only trying to do right by my animal. The reasoning (because someone thought I should be PM'd to find out) behind me wanting to cut my animal vs. banding is because I keep hearing horror stories about banding (scrotum fills up, one testicle is missed, infection, etc.) I figured it would just be quicker to get them out and not have to worry about those things. But as mentioned someone else's method is always better, so I guess the ONLY way is to band. And my original post was not meant to be offensive to anyone. I justed wanted the person who said "you better know what you're doing" to know that I was confident in my abilities. Addressing the trying to help someone else comment......I guess I didn't realize that only certain members were allowed to help. Thanks for the warm welcome!

Its is a four week old calf he ain't got enough of a sack to make a stink. If you want to cut him cut off the bottom of the sac pull a nut down and just keep pulling till it comes lose then repeat on the other one.

We're not going to let you give up that easy. The biggest thing you need to be is a mind reader in order that you get the entire picture of what is going on, including the experience, training, and mindset of the person asking the question.

Luv4whippets - don't take it personal. There are so many one post wonders that stop by and know everything that sometimes others get lumped in that same group.

By the way, we band. But, if I was going to cut, my scapel is in my pocket. Brand name is Case. Probably wouldn't even wash them off first...

everybody has to learn somewhere. this is the best place on the internet to learn about cattle. the people in the megaposter club that always pat each others back and refuse to call each other out when they give bad advice irks me a lot more than somebody new that is just trying to get help.

I luv herfrds, this comment is not aimed at you but just something that I want to say. The term "thick hide" is thrown around on this board like it is a requirement to participate on this board. It seems to be an admirable quality "to tell it like it is" on this board even to the point of being abrasive. "Cattle folks are an idependent lot" is another phrase used to excuse rudeness. I have spent many years attempting to overcome such behavior since it is something in which I no longer take pride. Don't mean to preach but JMHO>

I tend to agree with you, Cowdirt. If someone can't take constructive, honest, fair criticism then they probably shouldn't ask questions or give opinions. But the fact is that some people on here love to be downright abusive. Not many, but some. The idea that someone should have a "thick hide" and silently suffer abuse just doesn't sit well with me. It puts the blame where it doesn't belong.

Well ,I hope you do not mean me as I am MORE than nice and fair,, and my post was not referred to whippet but to all the other OMG are you kidding me questions as of late and no they are not just newbie questions because even a newbie does their homework..These are stupid dumb @ss questions that are an absolute embarrassment to the cattle industry. Just because you have money to buy a cow does not mean that you can or should..

My last comment was to the snarky attitude that I was given as I have been told many times to dumb it down ,so that's what I did..I have no doubt at all that whippet and her family are doing the very best for their animals under their care...

There's a fine line between being blunt and straightforward, and being rude and insulting. People will differ on where that line is. Where that line is for me can be summed up by what Justice Stewart said about pornograhy. "I can't describe it, but I know it when I see it."

I have gotten both personal attacks and treated like I was an idiot on this board. I had a couple of choices.
1. I could of left and never come back and missed out on learning a lot because some one was "mean" or
2. Get "thick skinned" and ignore the nasty people.

Good point mnm, ie, no need to give a lecture on using the search feature when a simple answer will take less time and goodness sakes it ain't like we don't like to talk. Just look at the number of our posts on diverse subjects.

I was just wondering if this is aimed at me, because I asked for advice a few weeks ago, as being new to cattle, but I still expressed my opinion trying to answer there question?
