Hi,

My Braunvieh cow had a set of twins last night. The first calf stood up and sucked okay. The second calf then stood up and tried to suck but the cow knocked him away. He got a couple of swallows before this happened. Should I give him a packet of of colostrum or put the cow in a headgate and get him to suck. I am going to bottle feed it.

It wouldn't hurt to get the calf to nurse the cow for the first few feedings so he gets colostrum. But if you're going to bottle feed him anyway, we've had good results using the packaged replacement colostrum.

separate the calves from the cow & let them both in to nurse at the same time
