I just "tubed" a calf today that wouldn't suck. Not sure I'm using the right term - I've heard "drench" on this board more frequently. What's the difference between "tube" and "drench"?

Tubing refers to using an esophogeal tbe and putting the stuff directly into the stomach. A drench is typically poured in their mouth or throat and they have to swallow.

Thanks. I guess I tubed then . . . with a touch of drench. Seems like drenching would just be much harder to get anything down . . . though probably less traumatic on the newborn.

If they won;t suck they usually won;t swallow either and you stand a better chance of gettin liquid in the lungs with a drench then a tube

That's what made me switch from the drench to the full tubing . . . I could tell I was getting some into his air track.
