I am subscribed the "The Cattleman" magazine which seems to deal mostly with Texas. The magazine specifically reports on the Texas and Southwest Cattle Raisers Association. I was wondering if anyone is a member of the TSCRA and what benefits you recieve.

We are members. Not much hard dollar benefit but we feel it's worth it because of all the work they do to fight cattle rustling. Your dues help finance the inspectors that make a note of brands and marks at the sale barns and chase down thieves. They also do some lobbying on behalf of the rancher. Plus, the theory goes that if a cattle thief sees your place is posted with a membership sign it will (hopefully) serve as a deterrent and they will keep moving.

Does TSCRA also offer insurance? I think I read in one of the articles or advertisements about entire insurance coverage including that of your family.

I don't get insurance from them, so I can't vouch for how good or bad their rates and coverage are. You can find info at http://www.texascattleraisers.org/insurance.asp

Can't remember. We're not huge but we're not small either. Some members are running hundreds of head and some just a few pair. Since it's a soft dollar expense it's hard to quantify a justification. One of those decisions you have to make based on your own situation.
