Traditional Simmentals #2

Help Support CattleToday:

Now I haven't read thru the whole other post so I'm going at this just based on the question. I think you could get white face or blaze Flecks. If you breed the spots out and go to solid body and then start selecting for white face or blaze from that. Also they could just be PB Sim. If you register a PB sim x FB Sim( fleck ) it will just be a reg. as a PB Sim. A solid red PB Sim on a Fleck could get a lot of variation.

Have seen photos of some solid red fullblood Fleckvieh bulls.
If you select for les and less white, eventually it may go away.
Or may reappear unexpectedly; spot gene can slide along, undetected, for generations, then BAM! there it is.
Showed up in a big way in a calf born here this week.

looked for some Fleckveih bulls to use on the neighbors red angus in the bull catalogs I have....one stud did not have any and the other stud wanted 50 to 80 and some 100 per straw.....too much for raising crossbred calves....

no red Gelbveih bulls in either catalog...plenty of black ones.....neighbor likes his red cattle....

Jim,
He's not full Fleck (3/4) - but he's a solid color pattern RWF and non-diluter, $18 at Universal, and even though he's old (1986), he's still got a decent epd profile.

I used him back in the late 80s, on Holstein heifers. Oughta make some dandy calves out of Red Angus cows. I wouldn't hesitate to use him again, if I were going for red baldies

Accelerated carries one of the FB Brinks bulls that is traditional marked. Not as open as some though

I know a place you can get him for $8.
Pm me if interested.
I'd rather not make a PSA until I know my brother has all the inventory he'd ever want from that location. ;)

Actually just got two calves on the ground from him late last month.
Big boys, they look like they are gonna be quite the growers for us.
Planning on trying a little more of him for next year.

actually LuckyP pointed me at several bulls...
one is a red simmental at ABS called Red Iron...
my neighbor is considering him for his mature cows....
while I do not care for the local ABS people, my Select Sires rep will get me anything I want.

Our SS rep is super too.
He keeps his ears open to sires that are no longer available but can be found on the fringe at times.

Another connection for the German Fleckvieh semen is John Popp, Big Bear Genetics in Canada. While he primarily sells the dairy Fleckvieh semen, these bulls also have beef indexes. They are considered dual purpose. In the US you can order from Hawkeye Breeders.

Another source for Fleckvieh is Global Genetic Resources in Wisconsin. They have some Fleckvieh Beef bulls listed.

There are links to these sites from our website: Composite Dairy Cattle Registry: http://www.dairycattleregistry.com, just go to the bull listing page.
