To the kids who survived the 30's 40's 50's 60's and 70's

First, we were born to Mothers who did some of the following things while they carried us:

They took aspirin, ate blue cheese dressing and didn't get tested for diabetes.

Then after that trauma, our baby cribs were covered with bright colored lead-based paints.

We had no childproof lids on medicine bottles, doors or cabinets and when we rode our bikes, we had no helmets, not to
mention, the risks we took hitchhiking.

As children, we would ride in cars with no seat belts or air bags. Riding in the back of a pick up on a warm day was always a special treat.

We drank water from the garden hose and NOT from a bottle.

We shared one soft drink with four friends, from one bottle and NO ONE actually died from this.

We ate cupcakes, bread and butter and drank soda pop with sugar in it, but we weren't overweight

Because WE WERE ALWAYS OUTSIDE PLAYING!

We would sometimes leave home in the morning and play all day, as long as we were back for lunch and of course when it started to get dark.

No one was able to reach us all day. And we were O.K.

We would spend hours building our go-carts out of scraps and then ride down the hill, only to find out we forgot the brakes After running into the bushes a few times, we learned to solve the problem.

We did not have Playstations, Nintendo's, X-boxes, no video games at all, no 99 channels on cable, no video tape movies, no surround sound, no cell phones, no personal computers, no internet or internet chatrooms

..........WE HAD FRIENDS and we went outside and found them!

We fell out of trees, got cut, broke bones and teeth and there were no lawsuits from these accidents.

We made up games with sticks and tennis balls and ate worms and although we were told it would happen, we did not put out very many eyes, nor did the worms live in us forever

We rode bikes or walked to a friend's house and knocked on the door or rang the bell, or just walked in and talked to them!

Little league had tryouts and not everyone made the team. Those who didn't had to learn to deal with disappointment. Imagine that!!

The idea of a parent bailing us out if we broke the law was unheard of. They actually sided with the law!

This generation has produced some of the best risk-takers, problem solvers and inventors ever!

The past 50 years have been an explosion of innovation and new ideas.

We had freedom, failure, success and responsibility, and we learned HOW TO DEAL WITH IT ALL!

Hooray for us!!!

We learned all that, yet we didn't pass it on down. We are the parents of the kids today with the Playstations, the expensive cars and the "gimme" attitudes who get bailed out of trouble.

I'd be out all day on my horse...Mom didn't worry if I was on Charlie..I was 'bout 17,first horse, and had trained him "backwards"..move into leg pressure, run on a tight rein...stop when the reins were"thrown away" Sure was fun if anyone tried to ride him when I wasn't there(that happened to a friends horse, they used wire for a bit and cut his mouth) Also trained him as a "war horse" He would rear, paw, bite strike or kick.. only on command..I never had to use him as a wepon, but it was nice to know the ability was there..

All of them qualify except the "one soda bottle passed around." I never drink after someone and never have.

i grew up as an only child at my grandparents farm, i was blessed to have such a life.. all my friends would stay with me inthe summer for weeks.. town kids could have the fun we had.. riding ponies till dark, swimming ,fishing..swinging on grape vines playing in woods running on deer trails. i have { still do LOL} a great imaganation. would come up with all kinds of games and place id be on my pony and never leave the field LOL i did how ever learn a lession that has stuck with me for ever.... if your pony runs your knee into the cows butt she can kick you inthe shin....LOL poor ol milk cows would talerate me for a good while play cattle drive be fore they'd let me know "we're done !"
with my kids, and neighbors , we spent alot of time out side. id take everyone for walks in the woods, go to river for the day.. theyd build some of the scarest contraptions you ever seen for 2 or 4 days workon them and then give it a try down the rd. it did freak me out from time to time.. but i let them be kids not lumps on the sofa.. and they would have if id not insist "" go out side !" i guess thats why our yard was the nieghbor hood park.. i was the activity director LOL
