Third Black Swan event

Help Support CattleToday:

So when Bullard says the cow/calf producer will be wiped out, he's referring to live cattle coming from Brazil or some where other than here, which I don't understand how can it be more profitable to transport
Lower feed costs and lower labor costs pay for a lot of shipping.

Hobby cow calf will continue here as long as there are off farm jobs available.

Folks that actually track their cash have been shifting to sell buy margin operations.

Gates is buying farmland to automate the growing of crops , and eventually cattle will be automated too. The infrastructure bill = eminent domain. Covid did the exact opposite of what it should have. It favored all the big corporations and killed local business. Even when the Packers had their problems and it seemed people realized the need for small local processing , now it will be flipped and made more automated, more vertically integrated as was said in the OP. They are putting the final nail in the coffin of rural communities. Land prices are insane, it's almost impossible to produce enough to pay for the land. Unless you can buy millions of acres with billions of dollars like BG. The solution is almost impossible. To build strong , decentralized, resilient local communities and economies. You can't beat the system by playing within it, not when they are the rule makers. You have to opt out and create new systems and use the network effect to create many nodes so that the new paradigm spreads. Some people are already doing this work, but covid destroyed so many restaurants and other participants in this alternative system. Only hope is to try and build it back better than before. I do know that people in the direct to consumer , grass fed, regenerative ranching space saw a huge demand increase during covid. But idk if it will be enough.
