It is better to be tried by 12 than carried by 8. If put in a situation that is self-defense, I will take my chances and shoot. One would think hold them until the police get there, but that is hostage taking and are in a lot of trouble. The best thing anybody can do is prepare to be a hard target and maybe they will move on to the next one.

I know several around here that was tried by 12 and should have been put under the jail house and are out like nothing ever happened. A good lawyer can do miracles.

Concealed carry class teaches us the very last thing you ever want to do is shoot someone. Morally and ethically true to a degree but for sure legally. We are told no matter how guilty the person is or even in a case of self defense you are going to be sued, either by the survivor or by their heirs. I take this very seriously- but I am always prepared to do whatever it takes. However, I'm just not the type to let someone do something to me or my family or belongings without a fight. I've walked away from more fights than I've been in but when cornered they will get everything I have to offer. I guess that's just a Texas state of mind. Stay armed and on condition orange at all times. FWIW.

Several carriers offer what is called "Carry insurance" or "self-defense" insurance. If you are an NRA member, or GOA member, etc, you probably get mail or emails about it. They provide funds for bail, and for the lawyers to defend you, in the event you are forced to use your weapon, and are arrested and/or sued as a result. It is very expensive for the amount of coverage you get.

My father was a figher pilot in Korea. He always felt bad about the Chinese pilots he shot down.

What about these Byrna non lethal weapons?

"These chemical irritant rounds are engineered to burst upon impact, dispersing a cloud of powerful pepper and/or tear gas powder capable of disabling an attacker for up to 30 minutes."

If that thing comes out (looking like a gun, as it does), real bullets will likely be returned.

No thanks

WWII my father was bayonetted in the shoulder. He made a necklace out of the attackers teeth. He did not feel bad about it.

My dad disliked Communism and the enemy pilots trying to kill him and the US forces on the ground. Not in the heat of battle but later, he said he felt sorry because the Chinese at that point were sending out inexperienced pilots. He said they were just boys.
