What a friggin mess today!!
I went and caught Dapples and her lil heifer this morning after a good sleep. (Catching up from time change and early morning calf grafting for Bessie)
Anyway, I got everyone else sorted out. Fed Dapples a bit more. Started moving some panels to block the low spots on the south side of the pen.
As I'm moving the last panel into place, Dapples politely jumps right over the entry gate!! My buddy was standing outside the pen, not 5 feet from where she jumped out. All he'd a had to do was walk in front of escape route and she would've backed off.

Once out, she turned her head and looked at me with that look as if to give me the bird!!
I said heck with it and went to the sale. Couldn't believe she abandoned her kid like that. I left the calf penned.
Went and bid on some 500lb bull calves. Didn't get any brought. Right at $1800 hd.
Crazy thing is, 675lb steers sold for only about $75 more. Hmmmm. I didn't buy them either tho.
So!
Went back to try n catch Dapples again. Nope!! She ain't going back in that pen for nothing. FINE!! We will see how you feel about that about 630 tonight, you B!!
Got a good nap in this afternoon too....
Well, I got her and 3 other cows back in the pen this evening and got em sorted again. By this time Dapples heifer is bawling hungry. And Dapples is spraying milk everywhere with every step. I thought her bag was about to bust!!
O yeah. I shoved the new calf in the back of the pickup this time. I came prepared, knowing she needed some relief and the lil adoptee bull was hungry too.
Dumped about 20lbs of cubes to occupy.
Happiness!!
Look at that udder!

Her baby got her fill and the bull just kept on a chuggin....
She did kick a lil for a bit until she realized her udder was feeling so much better.

Fortified the escape route with some taller panels and t-post thank u very much.

Step-son had to give Rocket a bite or two.

Look at that gut. Goodness!

He was soooooo fullll

I'll return tomorrow and re-fill water and hope she's still in there with them.
