Hello,
We recently bought a couple of feeder calves at auction, not realizing just how thin they were (It was 2AM when they went through). Most of the group is doing fairly well now, at least eating grain and looking brighter. They are being feed high protein grain with terramycin crumbles in it and grass hay.

However, one calf died suddenly and another is looking pretty listless. He is only eating a little hay and has a slight cough and watery feces. We gave him a dose of LA 200 about a week ago but he's stayed about the same. He doesn't seem to understand the whole eat grain like everybody else thing.

Any suggestions? Are the electrolyte packets, probiotics and nutrient drenches worth the money? I'd really like to save the little guy, he's had a rough set of cards dealt to him so far.

Thanks!

Get with a vet first of all. Get a manure sample looked at. I'm guessing they could be pretty wormy, also you need some better medicine than LA200. Probably baytril or draxxin. How big are they and are they dairy or beef calves? If he has worms bad enough that it is effecting him like this, he will need dewormed orally.

They were wormed, at the very least, several weeks ago when they went through the sale barn, along with a complete set of vaccinations. They are about 300 pounds, probably short yearlings so 6-9 months old?

We were trying to give them a chance to settling and most of group has and is gaining, just not this kiddo.

Thanks for the suggestions!
