I have 2 Texas Heelers. Both are livestock guardians as well as good help to move stock.
Tex is younger and has been great to alert, bark and run off predators but the old man, Sam, remains my primary guardian.
It's going to kill me when he's gone. Sam is 15 years old now, totally deaf, cataracts and seriously showing some age but by golly, he's still on the job. Tex goes out after predators the Sam follows along and takes care of business.
We've had Texas Heelers here for over 20 years. I can't imagine a better all around farm and ranch dog who can be a family dog in the blink on an eye.
I fear now, that he will lose a battle some night but he will never be a house dog and if he goes doing his job, he went doing what he loved doing.
