First calf of the year. The pictures are not very good. Nice little red calf out of a Hereford cow I just bought a few weeks ago. She was supposed to be a late calver. I guess it was ready to come into the cruel old world.

Do you bring them in or do they have shelter/bedding in all that snow? Congrats on the new calf! Couple of my girls are starting to bag. "Official" start should be 3/5, which means anytime within the next couple weeks.

The cows spend the night near a place where there are some trees; there is no bedding. It was up and moving well this morning.

My official start should be March 11. I was hoping the snow would start melting by now, but it is beginning to look like we are going to have snow into march.

Ya, we got 27.5 inches in January. The last time Riverton got that much for the month of January was back in 1919. We have about 12 inches on the ground right now, and I think we got about in inch today.
