You just have to make sure the grqss is short or what you throw is big.

A guy that I work with said his dad was a big thrower. He would bang a knuckle and then cuss and throw the wrench or hammer. Dad would then turn to the kid and say go get that. It wasn't bad if it went to a stubble field or the barnyard. The ones that landed out in the brush were a different story. An hour later he is out there on his hands and knees searching through the brush for this lost wrench with dad cussing at him, "haven't you found that thing yet." There is very little justice in the world when you are a kid.
