That was us

When did they last make a vehicle with ''points''? I sure don't miss keeping points and condenser in the glove compartment to get me home.
I'm not really sure when they switched to "no points" I think the first truck I ever had without them may have been 74 or 75. But last time they built a vehicle with a spare tire was the last one that rolled off the line and that will continue to happen. Most of today's young people don't know what to do about a flat tire. For the biggest part I think we are breeding mechanical skills out of today's population. I have a trade school for HVAC and plumbing and the number of students with no skills and also no knowledge of what a tool's common name is, seems to grow almost monthly. We give them a basic tool kit in the class and other than distinguishing a screw driver from other mysterious looking objects in their tool bag, they are lost.

I grew up in my father's autoshop in the 50s and 60s. Working on flatheads and straight 8s. Points, condensor and dwell were never the mystery to me that they evidently were to the rest of the world. Some of you probably never flashed a field on an old generator either. (It's exciting!)
Or bled a hill stopper brake cylinder.
(I'm also that one guy you heard about but never met, a decade or 2 later, that mastered (and loved) the mysterious and often hated Quadrajet, but only after going tru GM's carb school in Memphis Tn)
..early 70s. Needles and jets, and linkage OH MY!

I want their expenses to go UP, so they can no longer afford to operate. Right now, they are being buoyed afloat only by junk mail and the whim of congress, who vote yes, only because of the postal worker's strong union pressure..
I well tell you something about that so called postal workers union that I wasn't aware of myself until my wife wife went to work for the Postal Service. Yes the Postal Service does still have a Union that is worthless as worthless can be. I have worked union and am 100 % behind a true Union that stands up
for it's Union members. But all Unions are not worth joining. And the U. S. Postal Service in no longer one of those type of unions and is worth a confederate dollar let alone anything else.

And another thing that the majority of the people aren't aware of is that the U.S. Postal Service isn't owned and operated by the U.S. government but instead private Entities that are in some way affiliated with the U.S government. And the label U. S. Postal Service is misleading and false information. Because the biggest percentage of the people are under the impression that the U. S. Postal Service is still a government operated agency. And that the Postal Service Employees are Government Employees and therefore are public servants. Which is all a crock of ****. What the government done was to eliminate a problem by this cheese deal they done by more less selling out that service ( U.S. Postal Service ) to these private Entities .

The Majority of these Postal Jeeps you will see are so damn old and wore out that they can't keep from breaking down or even get parts for them. So the majority of the people working for the Postal Service, workers has to provide their own vehicles to deliver the mail. Which if the Postal Service paid enough for them to pay for a vehicle and make enough profit on top of that to make enough money to pay their bills like most people regardless of the type of work do, Farmeres, Factory Workers, School Teachers and so on practically anyone that works for a living . You could expect them to not have any reason to complain about the wages they are being paid to deliver your mail to your door step.

But that's not happening. The truth of the Story is the U.S. government doesn't have squat to do with the Postal Service except for using the title of the U.S. Postal Service to fraudulently mislead the public into thinking the U.S. Postal Service is owned and run by the United States government which is a nothing but a crock of **** and nothing but a lie. Oh when the U.S. Postal was first established. It was established and run by the United States Government but that all changed 20 + years ago. But like all good scams the majority of the people are not aware of that.

It pisses me off to no end when my wife tells me about all of the no good peace's of **** that comes in bitching about their problems they have with their mail not be delivered the way they want it mostly because they think they are talking to government employees. When they aren't. When you go into a Post office you are not addressing a public servant nor a government employee.

And a lot of the complaints these people come in complaining about has to do with these postal workers having problems with their vehicles that belongs to them. They have to maintain their own vehicles. But they are like anyone else who has to keep the maintenance up on their personal vehicles. They do the best they can but because their jobs require putting lots of miles every day to deliver your mail. Their cost to maintain their vehicles and a vehicle doesn't last them as long as someone who like myself drives 20 miles to work and 20 miles back home. A mail carrier puts a 100 or more miles everyday to deliver their mail routes.

THEY not the UNITED STATES GOVERNMENT. have to pay for these cost. U.S. postal workers are not public servants. When I was in the United States National Guard and my brothers was in the United States Army we were United States Public Servants. The U.S. government feed me, clothed me, paid all my medical, transportation, air fair and so on while I was employed by the government. So you bet all U.S. citizens had the right to bitch and complain about any thing I done to offend them. They even paid me for my services. So yes I can see them having a reason
to bitch even if it was in the military and my job was to risk my life if necessary to protect all of these good U. S. Citizens and their families.

But I am telling you a U.S. Postal worker doesn't owe anyone ****. They are no different than a cattle farmer raising cattle that doesn't owe anyone nothing. A cattle farmer is actually providing a service to the public by raising beef to sell to the public. And they don't deserve to be treated like **** because someone might not like the way they are raising cattle and i as a cattle farmer will be at the first of the line to stick whoever wants to complain to me about how I am operating their head up their ass.

So when ever you are addressing a postal
worker and feel the need to treat them
As if they are working for the government and talk down to them. Just realize they are only putting up with your bull **** to hang onto a worthless job that doesn't pay all that great because they are like you and have a family to feed and bills to pay.

They aren't military or X military like I myself was. They are Civilians working a piss poor job that I wouldn't work and couldn't work because the first SOB that tried brow beating me. I would wind up in jail because of sticking that SOB'S head up their ass.

Not exactly true. Congress has one very important say in the USPS. Congress (and congress alone) has the constitutional authority to create a (the) postal service as since they did, the USPS cannot 'go out of existence' without congress approving it. The Postal Clause states, and the U.S. Supreme Court has made clear, Congress has the power over and responsibility for the postal system.

When a $100 billion + taxpayer bailout is needed (and is once again) to keep USPS running, and that can only happen thru congressional approval, USPS is a de facto US Govt operation.
There will be a lot of debate about USPS in the next few months, but as long as mail-in ballots are common, the debates won't have much effect.

We every now and then get mail addressed to by name and town. Nothing else. One time we got a letter addressed to the wife and me by our first name only and the town and state. Only one other Dave in the community and his wife's name is different than my wife's name. One of the up sides of living in a very small community.

But I bet they gather both up together and send it all over to "Branch" to be auto sorted and then the local stuff sent BACK to your local PO and then, sent off on it's route.
We have separate boxes to drop in. If you put one in each, one sent to Dallas will deliver before the one sent across town

Over 40 years ago, I was a young dairyman yearning for warmer climes than Minnesota had to offer in winter. A dairy wife in Texas had written an article in "Hoard's Dairyman" about their bull completely destroying every panel on their brand new pickup truck... fighting with his reflection. She had tagged their town... Como, TX. So I wrote her a letter, addressed to her and Como, TX. That's it. If you know Como... even today, its population is only 728! She wrote me back, and we still have a wonderful relationship. Think I'll try to contact her now, come to think of it... it's been awhile!

They certainly have dumbed down society. Your basic owners manual told you how to adjust your valves and set your points. Now it tells you not to drink your washer fluid.
Or don't drink the water in the battery…lol. Additionally, is it really necessary to put instructions on a box of Pop Tarts?! Really?!

EXACTLY TRUE !!! Your line of thinking along with everyone else sitting on the side line looking in that thinks the Government is sole supporter of the Postal Service doesn't have a clue what's going on.

Do you really think the sell of stamps and delivery of packages bring in enough revenue to pay what it cost to operate the Postal Service ? I will tell you it doesn't. I know my wife is a Post Master because I was under the same impression 90 % of the rest of the public and thought it would be a great career for her to look forward to. She has a degree in business. Owned her own car dealer ship at one time years before I met her. She was married to an Alcoholic who couldn't or wouldn't work because he stayed drunk most of the time. So in order to keep that worthless peace of **** a job the wife financed a poultry farm using her car dealership as collateral thinking her husband would be able to hold down a job. WRONG !!! That ended up being the worst thing to do. An alcoholic isn't going to do nothing you can depend on but stay drunk and a drunk can't run a poultry farm or any other kind of job. So after losing enough batches of birds Tysons drops that peace of ****. My now Wife comes to her senses and has a baby to raise divorces him.

Out side of the sell of stamps their other biggest source of revenue is delivering Amazon packages. And her Post Office is one of the bigger ones. Around Christmas they average a 1000 Amazon packages to deliver per day and out side of the holidays they deliver about 400 packages a day. And anymore that is the bulk of their deliveries ( Packages) very little letters or other mail that comes in an envelope. My wife is a Post Master She is supposed to supervise and manage the employees at here office. She would be better off had she not of become the Post Master but there again that is my fault.

I encouraged her to work her way up the ladder and get into management because I was like 90 % of the people who thought that she had won the lottery when she got a job working for the government. But I was like everyone else and didn't know what the hell I was talking about. Didn't realize the U.S. Postal Service had been sold off to these so called Private entities.

But because her job is to make sure that mail keeps rolling and being delivered. If walk into her Post Office you will either find her in the back sorting mail or out using her own car hauling another postal carrier around on a mail route delivering mail. If you were to figure up all of the hours she puts in per day I doubt she makes minimum wage. And if you include the wear and tear on her vehicle probably less than minimum wage. A mail carrier gets some allowance for using their own vehicles.

The office my wife runs is one of the bigger ones. Has one of the biggest customer loads to deliver to. Her office has ONE LLV ( postal jeep ) that is 30 years old and way past being wore out. And one Postal Van that is newer but way over high mileage. So that's about the same for the rest of the world where the Postal Servive delivers mail. Now if you get in major cities like Oklahoma City you're going to see WAY more the one of each of the vehicles I described simply because that's like three or four or more rual area compared.

Tell GB you was a public servant during your whole career in the military. How many cussing per day did you take ? Or how many would you say you took during your whole career ? And I am not referring to being reprimanded by your superior officers. I am talking about by the public ? I would guess the answer to that would be none ?

Well my wife is 54 years old and weighs about 140 lbs and she gets several cussing a day. But I cat get her to quit because she will
lose what little piss poor retirement she had coming. Which isn't a government retirement like the military gets probably like you are getting. Their retirement is some kind of Bull **** called thrift savings.

Tell you something else too. You mentioned the Government bailout to keep the Postal Service a float !!! Well why to hell not if it's owned and run by the U.S. government ? I tell you why our piss pour Excuses office of government doesn't want to be exposed for misleading and Lying to the taxpayers of the United States and know how valuable that service is to the Public especially the older people Who depends so heavily on the Postal Service to take care of their business. People that aren't physically able to walk to their mail box let alone drive to the post office.

The U.S. government every single one of them are nothing but lying peace's of crap. GB you're good about looking up stuff and getting to the truth of things. Do some research on what I am telling you and prove me wrong.

There was a great documentary about this very subject not long ago called The Great Postal Scam that explains a lot of what's going on with the Postal Service. Told and showed how the government was selling off big major Post Office Real Estate some of which was worth millions of dollars for the elaborate design and construction that went into building it and the cost to the taxpayers that paid for it. Someone or alot of Government officials are the ones behind selling off these high dollar taxpayer owned peaces of real estate for pennies on the dollar. Even had some of the billionaires scrambling to buy these bargains of the centuries.

So JB I would consider it a favor if you
Could prove me wrong on all of this and point out all of the spectacular benefits these Postal Service get that the deserve to be cussed and treated for. And why the suicide rate is overwhelmingly high for Postal Service Workers.

I did not make a career in the military, but I still got a lot of cussins. Foreigners are good at it and lots of time, most US military don't even know they are being cussed at. Then of course, it was the times. Pretty much a national pastime to cuss out any US military during Vietnam

Another thing. Hell if the Post Office is so worthless and not worth paying people to run it. BY ALL MEANS SHUT IT DOWN !!!! Alot
of people myself included can still drive to
Where ever need be to pay their bill,s or
Pick up their prescriptions. It's not all
but a big majority of the older people and people with disabilities that needs their mail
delivered to their front door.

Congress themselves can get out and sort and deliver mail or better yet use our military to do it. We pay all of the above a WHOLE LOT BETTER than what we the taxpayers pay a postal employee. And none of the above have to use their own transportation to where ever it is we want them to go. Narry a time when I was in the U.S. National Guards did I pay for nothing. They flew me all over the place, always 3 good square meals every day. All my medical, clothing housing every thing. Had two brothers that was in Vietnam. Granted the one brother who spent most of his times slept in the jungles and had to
Sleep with one eye open for fear of being shot most of the time he was on patrol. But he still got treated in a lot of ways than a Postal Worker. Now the other brother he was in
Necular Weapons and had it like about 80 % of the rest of the branches of military has it during peacetime. Nothing but fun and adventure. That's way I had during my 10
Years of service. Never got cussed once.

I did not make a career in the military, but I still got a lot of cussins. Foreigners are good at it and lots of time, most US military don't even know they are being cussed at. Then of course, it was the times. Pretty much a national pastime to cuss out any US military during Vietnam
Well like I told some of my commanding officers more than once and it's a wonder I wasn't court marchled. That I reciprocate the way I am treated and they I think once they
Understood how I functioned showed and treated me with respect as I did them.

There's a lot of difference in brow beating and cussing people who are doing as good of a job as they can given what limited resources their employers are given for them to do
Their jobs and that having to take the scrap
that the coward standing there dishing out to
them just to keep that worthless thing called a job because they have families to support.

If I had of ended up in jungles of Vietnam like my brother was. I can right now if had of cussed by anyone or degraded in a repetitive manner. The first time our squad got in a fire fight. That SOB would have been leaving the jungle in a body bag. Regardless of rank. But I doubt very serious anyone including myself would be put in that position. In a artery Unit most ever one involved respects each other and wouldn't think you would ever have to deal with a cussing or being mistreated because you are relying on them as much
as you are them.

We don't actually have a town. I read that it was a bit of a town 100 years ago. They say our post office serves 130 people. That is every man, woman, and child within a 15-20 mile radius. The counter at the post office is only open from 8:00 to 10:00AM. They lost the key to the door long ago. So you can go in to pick up your mail 24/7.

Loving County Texas has one post office in county seat of Mentone and it serves the whole county. I think last time I looked, there were only about 60 people in the county and #1 employer IS the county. ..Most of them live there in Mentone, which is also the only town in the county. The county isn't very big. about 700 sq miles..

The wife's Post Office delivers mail to a population of 4,000. Her and 8 mail carriers and two desk clerks. One works the front desk and the other works sorting mail in the work room. They have three small offices that each one serves around a 100 customers + or - . That the carrier who's route these 3 small offices are on opens for two hours each day so that people in those areas can get their mail, buy stamps or mail something.

So anyone with a P.0. Box of those 4,000 customers are who those 11 people have to deliver mail to. And the Postal service provides the one 30 year old worn out postal Jeep and one postal van.

those 400 to a 1000 packages that comes in daily are delivered by semi trucks or trucks the size of moving vans loaded with 4 x4 x 5 aluminum square totes that is unloaded on the back dock of the Post Office. Each tote is full of Packages that can't exceed 70 lbs. The majority of those packages come from Amazon. When people order stuff from Amazon they can choose what mail service they prefer. Like Fed X or another service out side of the U. S. Postal Service. But usually what happens when that happens. The customer might choose Fed X thinking Fed X is who will be delivering their package. But what happens is say the customer pays FEDX $12 to deliver that package then Fed x delivers the package to the closest U.S. Post Office and pays them $ dollars to deliver that package what they referr to as the final mile. So FEDX or whatever the company the customer uses to deliver their package is the one's making a profit.
