Thanks to those that contributed good ideas.

You know the USA is full of handouts. From the public school systems. Highways, mass transit. No tax is fair, except maybe salestax. Few are the people who don't benefit in some sort of government money.
I'm a cow/calf guy, as you know we are pretty much left out of farm programs. We benefit from low priced feeds, if there is such a thing.
The USA relies on cheap abundant food. experts agree that no more than 20% of our income should go for food. To be short of food is simply out of the question, prices would go through the roof and our democracy would fail. Even though many subsidies are extreme and out of control, the US must continue to poduce cheap abundant food. We are all much happier with full bellies.

You are on the money when you say almost everyone getting a subsidy of some kind. When and if you have kids you do unless you homeschool and do not file taxes but a lot of people overlook the indirect benifits they get. That is just part of human nature that lets people feel better about themselves
