Below is a link to the Angus site that explains how an animal reaches "Pathfinder" status. Cows can be flushed, producing several embryos. The embryos are put into recipient cows who carry the pregnancy to term and raise the calf as their own. The embryo calves are genetically the son or daughter of the donor cow, not the recip. If you have joined the American Angus Association, they should have sent you a big packet of info that will answer most of your questions, but don't hesitate to ask. Good luck...

A Pathfinder will have a pound sign "#" in front of their registration number.

An Embryo will have a plus sign "+" in front of their registration number.

An Embroy animal that qaulifies as a pathfinder will have "#+" in front.
