Dairy herd I work with was evidently vaccinated for TB yesterday. I don't very often talk to the herd manager, and I was curious how this vaccine works, and how common it is? Never heard of it before last night.

I have never heard of a TB vaccine, but in order to test a herd for TB the get inoculated with a modified strain usually on a shaved area of the neck. Then 3 days later they are checked for reaction, there would be a sausage like swelling on the spot and the limf nodes will also be swollen.

My vet does the testing under the tail... or on the sides of the tail head. You can check there too...

In North Western MN where TB was found in a couple herds of beef cattle, the area herds have been vaccinated.
