How do you free the hair up at the end of the tail? I don't want to just start pulling a comb through it. Is there a product to put in the hair to make it easer to untangle?

Wet the tail and apply mass amounts of hair conditioner (go to the dollar store). Work the conditioner in with your hand just a little and then start combing from the tip of the tail and work your way all the way through until the tangle is gone. You will pull out some of the hair, but very little.

we just start at the bottom and do a little at a time. Comes right out for us. The conditioner would really help.

ditto all the way. comb it out completley as often as possible. however the little bit of tugging doesnt really bother them all that much.

We comb out tails 3 or more times a day so it never gets that was. whenever we walk by them in the pen we pull out a scotch comb and go through it 4 or 5 times. If you do it like that it saves you alot of trouble at shows trying to ball the tail.
