This is a 2 1/2 month old Dexter calf. I noticed yesterday afternoon that she was drolling, had a runny nose and her chin and lower lip were huge.
I cleaned out the dirt and washed out her mouth. She didn't eat hay but did nurse like a champ.
Anyone have any information on insect bites to the mouth, ants or bees in water tanks? I thought it might be a spider but there are now webs in the barn. It could also be a scorpion since they move when thunderstorms arrive.
Day 2, the swelling is done in the chin, but the inside is still swollen, so that you see her teeth. I do not see any injury or ulcer.
She is breathing regularly and nursing and eating a little hay. Has anyone had this experience. Rattlesnakes are out, but they never stay in the cattle pens.
