I had a nice surprise the other day. Had the vet check a cow a few months back and she told us the cow was open. So we decided to grain her out and have hamburger.

I went out to feed her and she had a nice little blk bull calf lying next to her. The calf's name is Lucky, if he had come a week later it would have been too late.

The will be hamburger after this calf. Her front quarters are all ballooned up. Bez thought his cow looked bad. She sure throws nice calves though.

Find another vet if it couldn't tell the cow was in it's second tri-mester.

It's kind of funny, the most common complaint I here about vets is their preg detection skills. Even the ones that do thousands of cows a year don;t alwasy get it right. Had an open cow calve on the patio a week or so ago. Two different vetrs had called her open. One about 3 months ago, one a couple of weeks before she calved.
And yet, people think they can preg check their own cows with no real training.
If the vet misses occasionally, while not a good thing, it's sure understandable. (To me anyway)
The only two methods I've seen that are 100% accurate are a cow nursing a calf or ultrasound

what was she doing on the patio-- drinking lemondade?

Yup, drinking lemonade and waiting to go into the parlor to be milked.
