Summer Garden 2022

I have sugar pod peas, Spanish sweet onions, early Jersey cabbage, Lieutenant broccoli, and Kennebec potatoes planted. Next week will pretty much sow/plant everything else including peanuts and cotton seed. I have some limestone planted also.

Are you going to "burn" down the plot first, and if so, what chemical are you using?

I'm just going to use either landscape fabric or mulch with alfalfa hay...if you went the chemical route you could use roundup or paraquat i guess. The produce is supposed to be more nutrient dense with no-till.

I knew you could use glyphosate or some other chemical like Liberty. I was just curious how you were getting rid of the existing plants to avoid competition.

I'm going to take my lawnmower in and mow it real short...then mulch it ....then plant into it....things like tomatoes and peppers, etc.. next year i might mechanically terminate a cover crop mix I'll plant this fall....right now I'm kind of learning as i go

Those sweet potatoes will do good. Your garden corn is ahead of here and that field corn across the road is ahead of here. My garden corn had so much grass coming in it I sprayed it with atrazine to kill the weeds/grass. It has been to wet to work the last few days as I have plenty of weeds.

I put tomatoes and pepper plants in my mothers garden as they grow good in her soil. I have gotten two big bags of broccoli and my sugar pod peas are about ready. Also I have potatoes getting pretty good size.

Looking good.. yea I planted that field and garden the same week .. rain hit it just right. Sweet potatoes hopefully will. I decided to plant by pushing them in with a shovel handle.

Sway back garden...
That's why I gave mine up a few years ago. I had tilled it so many years that it hollowed out and stayed wet and muddy too much of the growing season.

The garden is just now coming up. Most of you people can plant a lot earlier than we can.

When the monsoon ends sway back gardens sure beat a hump back.

I'm still getting tomatoes in this heat.
They are shaded part of the day.
I canned 27 pts so far.

Tomatoes are ripening late this year. Picked our first today.

I've always grown them on cattle panels. But this year I read up on pruning particularly grown on stakes. They claim earlier production and heavier yields. What do you all think of that?

To hot for tomatoes here, they stewed tomatoes before they come off the vine.

The wife's garden. I know we could grow and much better garden but she has her methods and I know nothing. A man has to know when to pick his battles.
