Been in the corn all day and ended up with 64 pints in the freezer. That Incredible corn melts in your mouth as it taste like it already has butter on it straight out of the garden boiled.

Those pigs are in hog heaven and enjoying their slop. I miss my pigs as I use to keep a couple sows until they got really cheap. Now they are selling better.

Get a couple .. I sell feeders all day 75 bucks avg 100 if they are cut males

Corn was absolutely s... This year for sweet corn but my field corns good. Anyone else have this? Getting ready for winter garden.

Seriously debating on putting about 10 pigs on my garden spot for a year let them eat up all the roots so I wouldn't have to deal with the end of the year jungle.

I am a member of the "Illinois morels, mushrooms, points, sheds and more " Facebook group. People eat the heck out of the sweet corn that has the big moldy looking growth thing. They are thrilled when it happens and brag. People are jealous of them. I don't know how they prepare it for eating. I put the commas where they are in the title if you want to look it up. I know that stuff will get slimy.
We eat morels, but I see people on there with crazy looking stuff that is edible. Everything I post someone says don't eat, make you sick.

I ran hogs in my garden years ago for the winter...I had the very best garden the next year and the cantaloupes were unbelievable....and it was easy to till if a little uneven because they had turned so much over....and under.....

First home raised cantaloupe. There is a bunch of them in the garden all coming ripe. I think we have had fresh corn on the cob out of the garden every day for the last week. Started giving some corn away. We have watermelon too. Jumped the gun on the first on of those. The chickens ended up getting it. I have never been successful raising either watermelon or cantaloupe. I guess this is the good side of all those 100 degree days we have had.

Over on the coast I had a bull pen that I had to clean in front of the feeder by hand once a week. A light load dumped into the loader bucket. Spread that on the garden (more like dump). Early March I would get a couple half grown pigs and put them in the garden until early May when they would get butchers. They did a wonderful job of spreading and tilling in that manure. Grew great gardens.

What I dug yesterday

The wife has been cleaning up the garden to put it asleep for the winter. The corn stalks went to cows on Tuesday. The green beans on Wednesday. Today was the vine plants, cucumbers, cantaloupe, and water melon. The chickens love over ripe water melon. She says there is 21 old water melons. The chickens will be eating good for the rest of this month.

Picked the last of the green beans yesterday.
Iron & Clay cowpeas still coming on... they'll be setting new pods when they freeze out.
Okra slowing down with the cool temps we're having (37F two mornings ago).
I still have a few watermelons in the barn aisle, picked nearly 2 months ago that are still edible; the 'Wintermelon' & 'King Winter' watermelons are still sound... hoping they last 'til at least Thanksgiving.
Peppers still going strong. I dug up a couple and potted them up, and will overwinter in the house - did this with a cayenne cutting last winter... got an early start on those peppers!
Sweet potatoes... once we get a frost, I'll dig them and see what sort of crop they made.

Since I pulled a stupid and used old hay to mulch last spring (which turned out to be very lively Johnson grass), I just shredded the overgrown garden patch today. It rained so much and was relatively cool so long that tomatoes and potatoes didn't do much, zucchini went to the squash bugs, and cukes never set. Any suggestions to kill the evil grass to restart for next spring (or get some pigs as others have said)?
