Going to try to plant an area I hayfed all winter. Did that last year and saw some amazing growth with tomatoes and peppers.

Still mud here, but I have bought some seed, and have the garden plowed. Can lids are hard to find as I have a pretty good supply left over. I have not seen any yet 4-sale, but hopefully soon. IMG_5944.JPG

What type of sweet corn do you grow? I bought a bag of golden queen and a bag of incredible corn yesterday. I also like peaches & cream and candy corn.

We have a deer fence around our garden. There is enough deer they would eat it into the ground. Thsi picture was taken off the back porch. The garden is just behind that white fence and to the left. These deer are closer to the house and the dog kennel than they would be in the garden.

Dave, we thought about putting an electric fence around the garden, but the deer would just jump it. What kinda deer fence do y'all have around your garden?

There is two different fences. Woven wire stacked two high. The first one is 47 inch tall wire the second one is 36 inch wire. The other is some plastic mesh that we inherited when we moved here. I wish there had been enough to do the whole garden. It is 7 feet tall and a lot easier to deal with. If you look close at the picture you can make it out over the deer's antlers.

Do you not have a concern about the field corn cross-pollinating with the sweet corn? Or does the variety you plant tassell out at a different time?
Correct. The sweet corn tassels 2-3wks ahead of the field corn.
neighbor had some cross pollinate, tasted tough.

I like those varieties as well but this is what I bought so far

My son builds fences. I remember that he built a 10 foot tall high tensile fixed knot deer fence for someone who had deer (inside the fence). Pretty expensive I am sure and requires 10 foot stretcher bars. Here is the ultimate - elk fence 23120-3. 23 horizontal strands, 120 inches tall, 3 inches between verticals. Would take me a few hours to tie those knots on the ends - 3" spacing working from a ladder.

Worked. The soil up lil more

We are debating a garden this year. Didn't do all that wonderful last year. Weeds and bugs took over. Been thinking about some raised beds but what a pain in the 🍑.
Just not sure how I feel about it yet.
What do ya'll think?
What do ya'll plant in your gardens? Ford trucks? 😁🤡

Jltrent and I typically have great gardens and we both said the gardens last year was not that great. It's like farming do you give up after a tough year? I am not going to raise beans and peas as they are too labor intensive. I rarely buy veggies out of the store this year some will be. Plant the garden and see what you get.
