i live in north central texas and i am thinking of growing a field of sudan for hay. when should i plant?how much disking does it need?can the seeds be broadcast?any info would be appreciated.

Keith, I also live in N. Central Texas. I usually plant sudan the first part of May,maybe late April depending on this unpredictable weather. We usually offset two times and level and firm the soil with a tandem disc and level with a drag. I prefer to drill the seed. A good firm seedbed is preferred. You can broadcast and disc the seed. The seed bed is not as firm and the seed depth is not uniform. Usually apply about 200 #/ac of nitrogen preplant. Sowing sudan is probably done a hundred acceptable ways. Mike
