Sudan Grass

Help Support CattleToday:

I plant some sudan hybrids every year for summer grazing, they fare well on my sandy acidic soil, need lots of water and heavy fertilizing on sorry soil. Soil temperature is critical for planting, if its still too cold they germinate very poorly.

When grazing don't let it grow higher than about mid thigh height, otherwise they become very stalky and regrowth is slower. I seldom get more than three grazings per season on my soil, but on better soil some get up to 4 grazings. Don't know about tonnage, but it has very high yields and cattle do well on it.

Please ask if I can be of any other assistance.
