I had written approx 10 days ago about our stubborn prospect - at that point I was really concerned about how he and my kids were going to get along on show day, which was today. Glad to be able to report that he led and set up very well - for cow/calf my daughter (11 yr old) led the cow and my son (8 yr old) led the calf - they got reserve champion for the pair - I will remember for a long time the two of them in there together.
Anyway, thanks for all the input - seemed like there were two different "sides" where some approaches were pretty stern and the other side was focusing on being patient, kind, etc. What worked for us was actually a combination - he needed a healthy dose of realizing who was in charge - but also required some timing on our parts to realize when he was needing some reassurance and "lovin' on." Who knows - I'm sure it takes different approaches for different calves but I am VERY relieved that my kids and the calf got along so well today. Thanks again!
