Saw a new (to me) mark on my Hereford bull. Located on side about halfway down. Not open wound, but 1/8" depression. Couple of flies seemed to be attracted to it. Not sensitive to bull. Can Anyone help me identify this?

Follow up photos. Have applied an antiseptic salve to deter the flies from this area.

If it was a 'new to you' bull, I might guess it was where a trocar was used at some point, but looks a little too far towards the front.

It's small. A long ways from his heart. Put some bacon grease (it's great at repelling flies,
works on horses too) on it and forget it .

Thanks everyone. We have had this bill since he was about a year old, now 13 and still going strong. The salve seems to have closed up the small edges. Bacon fat is a great idea, but I don't think I want to share my grease with him..... Horn injury is not possible as our Herefords have no horns. It could have been a burst abscess that went unnoticed. Appreciate all the help.
