storing hay

This past winter everyone was running out of hay, even the local farm suppliers. My question is this: When is the best time to start buying and storing hay for this coming winter. Is the quality affected if stored to early? Thank for the help.

You should be contracting for your winters hay supply now. Hay that's fed over the winter is normally put up around this time. That makes it stored hay. If it's stored inside our tarped properly it won't loose it's feed value. Let it get rained on and soak up ground from the bottom and you start loosing value.
