so my last post kind of hit of Subject of the question I meant to be asking. What size is your back grounding lot, and what stocking rate do you have in it.?

I only background my own calves but my lot is around 1/2 acre. I have 40ft of j-bunk space. Never had more than 30 calves in there at one time. I have a 108ft of apron for more bunks when I get around to it.

I don't like more than 30 unweaned calves per group. This seems to reduce problems, and make pen "riding" easier.

A common issue is operations grow and the feet of bunk per animal goes down. This reduces intake, recues performance, and increases issues.

Last winter I had 24 head in a 60 by 110 pen. They had 48 feet of feed bunk. As they got bigger things got crowded at the bunk so I expanded it out to 72 feet.
