stealing milk

Help Support CattleToday:

Thanks everyone.
I am having a hard time with this one. don`t want to send her to the sale barn. I got replys almost everyday to send her . we put her in with the weaning calfs 2 weeks now. found she is pushing the calfs around and not letting them in the barn or feed when she feeds, she got so fat hay belly I guess. for now we put her back with the heard and took out the cows and calfs that are nursing. this has become a pain in the neck. I`d like to try the weaning clip. but my better half wants to prep check her and if she`s not bred. (ship her). too bad nice looking angus.

The problem is.. you'll have to keep the "weaner" on the cow full time. If she's that bad at nursing everything, she may not necessarily nurse on one that even has a calf. You run the risk of her getting on a springing cow, and then you'll jeopardise the unborn calf getting the nutrition (colustrum) it needs.

No matter how good the cow, I promise you, it's not worth it.
