cowwrangler, he has some pretty decent growth numbers. I have heard allot of positives about the Goldrush genetics. If I were looking to retain heifers I would prefer a higher milk and CE numbers but of course I don't know what your cows are like. I currently have a Balancer bull ( 1/2 Gelbvieh and 1/2 Black Angus) and I am looking forward to see what his calf crop looks like. I have one of his calves so far out of our nurse cow that was born in November. For 1/2 Jersey it is growing more like a beef cow so I am excited about the potential growth the Gelbvieh influence will be on my beef herd.

This would be a good terminal bull. I have used him on the past, and his calves were scale busters. Always the biggest calves through the chute. He is absolutely not one to keep replacement heifers out of. Check out the -1 milk EPD!! I say again, DO NOT RETAIN HEIFERS OUT OF THIS BULL. His semen is a little more expensive since he died a few year ago.

And I'm with HOSS on the Carolina Fortune bull. He is a little light in the rear muscling department, but he is the complete EPD package. Calving ease, growth, maternal, and carcass EPD's to boot. His bull calves are generally high sellers at Seedstock Plus bull sales as well.

You'll like that Gelbvieh/Angus cross.

Here's a couple I like and they'll grow you some calves and good keeper heifers that will hold up. AMGV 896048, 655256 or my bull 978628 and don't rule out Carolina CPR. You will be able to pick and choose your calves from these sires. Hope it helps.

thanx Bandit80,i like that cross,i have been using http://www.bullbarn.com/gelbepd.asp?ID=82 ,just looking for some newer genetics and wondering what people have used and how they like them

I always liked using Boo Boo as well. I stopped using him because I made the decision to go homo black on my AI bulls. I have a few of his daughters in my herd. Easy keeping cows that's for sure.

If you got some stout cows and can take the higher birthweight.

cowman, when I was bull shopping last year I came very, very close to buying a son of the "Junior" bull. I took a few days to make a decision and I decided on buying him. Unfortunatley during that few days a big wind storm blew down a big tree limb that landed on him and permanently injured his rear leg. He had to be put down. If I would have made up my mind sooner he would have been at home in my pasture when the tree blew over in his. My second choice was a son of that 101N bull. Very nice calf but he did not pass a BSE so I took him back. I settled on a nice Balancer. I will use him for a couple of years then go back with a straight Gelbvieh bull.

That sucks that all the good bulls have to get hurt some way. I am sure your balancer bull fills in nicely though.
